Title: Privacy Savvy: Keeping Your Personal Information Private and Safe
Abstract:
How much does your phone, computer and the apps you use know about you?
Every time we use a device, an app or an online service, we can leave behind information about ourselves - often without realising it. This practical session will help you better understand what personal information is being collected, why it matters, and the simple steps you can take to have more control over what you share.
We’ll look at privacy settings, app permissions, public Wi-Fi and social media, as well as what you should think carefully about before entering personal information into AI chatbots.
Key Takeaways:
- Take greater control of your personal information and privacy: Learn what information your devices and apps may collect, how to review permissions and privacy settings, and when to limit access to your location, camera and microphone.
- Build safer habits when using Wi-Fi, social media and AI tools: Understand how to use public and home Wi-Fi more safely, reduce oversharing, know what not to enter into AI chatbots, and where to go if you need help with a privacy concern.
Please note: You will not be asked to share any personal information during this session. The focus is on practical knowledge, demonstrations and useful tips. You’ll leave with a checklist and access to resources to help keep yourself, friends and family safer online. As AI becomes smarter, getting the basics right is more important than ever.
