Presenter: Professor Duncan Reid
Title: Living Well with Arthritis: Separating Myth from Reality
Abstract: Arthritis affects thousands of New Zealanders, yet many people believe that aching joints, pain and reduced mobility are simply an unavoidable part of getting older. In reality, our understanding of arthritis has changed dramatically, and there is now strong evidence that the right approach can help people remain active, independent and doing the things they love.
In this practical and evidence-based workshop, Professor Duncan Reid explores what arthritis is, why it develops, and the latest thinking on managing the condition. Drawing on more than 30 years' experience in sports medicine, musculoskeletal physiotherapy and rehabilitation, Duncan will separate fact from fiction, explain why movement is often the best medicine, and discuss practical strategies for reducing pain, maintaining joint health and building confidence to stay active.
Whether you're living with arthritis yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply wanting to better understand joint health as you age, this workshop will leave you with practical advice, greater confidence, and a clearer understanding of how to keep moving well for life.
