SESSION Abstract: What does it actually take to build an Olympic medalist and what can that teach the rest of us about living well in our bodies?

In this engaging 45-minute session, Dr Mike Schofield draws on a remarkable career at the intersection of elite sport and sports science to explore the principles behind human physical performance. A former Olympic weightlifter and professional under-20 golfer, Mike completed a PhD in Biomechanics at Auckland University of Technology, specialising in explosive movement and strength in elite throwers. He has coached athletes to the Olympics, World Games, and international track and field podiums, including Olympic medalists and finalists. Mike's passion is performance consulting and coaching: understanding how the human body moves, adapts, and grows stronger, and translating that knowledge into practical strategies for real people. This is not a session about becoming an Olympian, it is a session about understanding the extraordinary machine you already live in, and learning how to look after it better.

Date: Thursday 27th August

Time & format: The course will start at 10am, with a coffee/tea break followed by a lively facilitated discussion to answer all your curious questions. The course will finish at 12pm.

Location: We are delighted to be hosting at No. 5 Cafe and Larder, 248 State Highway 51, Mangateretere, Hastings, 4180.
