Title: Look, Frame, Capture: A Hands-On Smartphone Photography Workshop
Abstract: Most of us carry a camera with us every day, but taking a beautiful photograph is about far more than simply pointing and clicking.
In this practical, hands-on workshop, participants will explore how composition, light, perspective, framing and storytelling can transform everyday smartphone photography. After a short introduction to some simple techniques, we’ll head out into the beautiful surrounds of Eden Garden to put them into practice.
You’ll have time to experiment, notice details you might normally overlook and try different ways of capturing the garden, before returning for tea, coffee and an informal group discussion. We’ll look at some of the images taken during the morning, share observations and explore what makes a photograph feel engaging or memorable.
No specialist equipment or photography experience is needed - just bring your smartphone, your curiosity and a willingness to look at the world a little differently.

This workshop will run on Wednesday 7th October from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm and includes entry into Eden Garden to enjoy on the day.

We're delighted to be hosting this workshop at Eden Garden, one of Auckland's hidden botanical treasures. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and tranquil spaces, it's the perfect place to enjoy great conversation and new ideas.

Kate Wark
Kate Wark is an Auckland-based photographer with a background in art and art history teaching, Kate brings both an artist’s eye and a natural ability to help others understand what makes an image work. Her photography is grounded in natural light, genuine connection and a strong sense of place, with experience spanning weddings, families and lifestyle photography in New Zealand and overseas.
Kate has built a career around capturing people and moments in a way that feels authentic, relaxed and visually considered. For Love Heart, Kate brings together her experience as both a photographer and educator to help participants notice composition, light, perspective and story - and to get more creative with the camera they already carry every day.
